3 Alkaline Diet Tips for Green Health

Eat Yourself Healthy on the Alkaline Diet!

Most of have a really good reason for wanting to change our diet, e.g. to

  • avoid or decrease our risk of disease
  • lose weight
  • gain energy
  • feel better

If you want to do any of those, why not consider the Alkaline Diet?

It’s less of a diet and more of a lifestyle change.

But it’s proven to help reduce your risk of disease, particularly cancer.

The things is though, it’s not always the easiest diet to stick to.

So here are some tips to help you make the change – even if only partly!

What Exactly IS the Alkaline Diet?

An alkaline diet emphasizes – obviously – alkaline foods. These are foods that produce an alkaline environment in the body rather than an acid environment. Alkaline foods include:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Some whole grains

That makes is a very green and eco friendly way of eating!

The alkaline diet ratio is 80/20.  alkaline diet foodsSo 80 percent of your foods should be alkaline, while 20 percent can be whatever you want.

Meat, dairy, corn, wheat, and refined sugars are all acid-building foods and are consumed only in moderation.

You don’t have to feel deprived and can eat, in moderation, what you want.

Tip 1: Choose a Goal for the Alkaline Diet

No, I don’t mean “lose 5 pounds” or whatever.

Instead, identify the lifestyle change that you’re going to make first. For example, green drinks are an important part of the alkaline diet. They’re also something that’s fairly simple to embrace.

Once green drinks are part of your daily routine, you can choose another goal to focus on.

Give each goal at least a week to become part of your life.

Tip 2: Do It One Meal at a Time

You might even take it one meal at a time. Focus on eating alkaline breakfasts first, then add lunches.

Once you’ve successfully changed your eating habits for breakfast and lunch, you can change your snacks and then your dinner.

Making gradual changes helps you create a pattern of success.

Tip 3: Add Water

This has a huge impact on your quality of life. You’re unable to properly digest the foods you eat. This means that the nutrients aren’t converted to energy for your cells. You’re exhausted and your body begins to crave fast calories.

If you simply drank more water, you’d lose weight and feel better.

And it doesn’t have to be water all the time. Other options include lemon water and herbal tea including peppermint, Rooibos, and nettle tea. Black coffee and wine are also okay in moderation.

Sample Food on the Alkaline Diet

So, if you had all meals according to the alkaline diet, here’s what it might look like.

In addition to a green drink each day, which is a blended drink of greens like kale or spinach as well as other fruits, vegetables and spices, you need to have three meals and healthy snacks.

Breakfast – For breakfast have an egg and tofu scramble with greens, or if you prefer something a little lighter try unsweetened yogurt topped with berries and nuts.

Lunch – A salad and a cup of tomato or bean soup is an ideal alkaline lunch. Keep in mind that you can top your salad with satisfying foods like avocados and beans.

Dinner – Roasted chicken with Brussels sprouts and yams.

Snacks – Dried fruit and nuts.

And you’ll see results as you go. You’ll begin losing weight and feeling more energetic even with small steps and changes.
