I’m Often Asked – Is Global Warming Real or a Hoax? Here’s What You Need To Know

Imagine something really nasty happening to you. Suppose you’d been involved in a terrible car accident, and your leg was so badly damaged that it was literally falling off. Ghastly, I know. You need to get to a hospital for immediate emergency medical treatment.
To save your leg, do you rely on a surgeon with years of experience dealing with damage just like this, or someone who says “don’t worry, trust me, I’m an expert” (as he shows you a fancy-looking certificate), but has no medical training at all?
Of course you’re going to want the experienced surgeon to try to save your leg.
And it’s the same with global warming.
- Do you rely on the word of trained, practising scientists who have written expert papers which have been acknowledged by their fellow scientists? Leading scientific organizations worldwide including NASA and the IPCC say climate change is real and happening right now.
- Or do you listen to people who rarely have expertise, but are paid generously by companies that have a vested interest in making people think climate change is a hoax?
Is It Similar To The Tobacco Industry?
Perhaps you remember the tobacco industry. Scientists and medical experts said that smoking cigarettes caused cancer.
The tobacco industry spent a LOT of money telling everyone that there was no direct link. Of course, we now know that smoking absolutely can cause cancer.
Is Global Warming A New Discovery?
Oil companies have known for a long time that fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas) cause global warming / climate change. But oil companies make their money – a LOT of money – from fossil fuels. And their shareholders pressure them to continue to make lots more profit.
The only way they can do that, is to tell people that global warming is a hoax. So that we’ll all carry on using fossil fuels and there’s no pressure by people or governments to swap to renewable energy (which isn’t nearly as profitable for the fossil fuel companies).
So, if you’re listening to arguments about whether something is real or a hoax, ask yourself:
- Who are the real experts?
- Where is the money?
Then you’ll know the correct answer.
