Top 10 Tips to Protect Them from EMF
Because the bodies of infants and young children are developing and growing, they are susceptible to injury that can be caused by exposure to magnetic fields and other forms of electromagnetic radiation – EMF for short.  (See Why we need protection against EMF)
Here’s how to minimise their exposure:
- Try not to use cellular telephones in the home – I know it’s difficult.   At the very least, move away from children while you are actually using the phone.
- Use corded phones instead of DECT or digital cordless phones.
- Don’t allow a child to use a cellular telephone or a cordless phone.   Corded phones are fine.
- Don’t use an electric hair dryer on a child.
- Discourage children from hanging around a kitchen when electric appliances are in operation.
- If you’ve got a fluorescent light fixture (tube or CFL) located beneath a child’s bedroom or playroom, keep the fixture switched off while a child is sleeping or playing in the room.
Remove cordless telephones from bedrooms.  Replace them with corded units and use battery operated clocks, radios, monitors and other equipment.   Make sure they are kept at least 6 feet or 2 metres away from the child.- If you have infants and/or young children, have your home surveyed for unsafe levels of EMF particularly in the childrens’ bedrooms and play areas.
- Prior to purchasing or renting a home, have the neighbourhood and building surveyed for high levels of electromagnetic and wireless radiation.
- Unnecessary EMF can be caused by wiring faults, ground errors, electrical panel faults, dirty electricity and ground current. Â You can buy or rent an RF meter and other equipment to test your home, either yourself or by a specialist.
- Radiant floor heating should be avoided in bedrooms especially children’s rooms.
- Don’t use a computer or TV as a baby-sitter.
- Don’t let your children play near power lines and transformers.
(OK, that was 13 tips instead of 10 – who’s counting?)
