How Working from Home Made Us Act More Sustainably

3 Cool Ways to be More Sustainable When You’re Working From Home

Home office ideal

Working from home – an exception before, anything but now. With quickly changing conditions, only very few would stop and think about the environmental impact of the new normal. Not all hope is lost though, as some of the solutions that we quickly adopted are even better for the environment than their predecessors.

Here are some ideas:

1. Send digital greeting cards and gifts

email marketing for a eco-friendly businessCake in the office and presents on the desk, a greeting card signed by everyone and tons of confetti? These are all things that belong to the past now.

Luckily, we can cut out some of them – wrapping paper and confetti are seldomly recycled or reused. Paper greeting cards are often thrown away after some period of time, so also not very sustainable.

While eating a digital cake can be tricky, sending online greeting cards and gift vouchers is definitely a thing!

You can easily collect money for a digital gift and let everyone sign an online group card. Services for group ecards like EcardForest even offer tree planting upon purchase!

This is a much more sustainable and eco-friendly option!

2. Organize an online team building

Instead of spending money and resources on team-building games and supplies, and decorations that you might throw away after the event, you can easily go for some funny camera backgrounds and online games.

Virtual escape rooms or multiplayer online games like Among Us are perfect solutions that are much more sustainable. Many more ideas can be found on Pinterest.

As no travelling is required to the team building location and back, these types of events are extra eco-friendly.

3. Adopt digital working tools

More of us are working from home than ever before. Here are 3 cool ways to green your home and work life - and they're fun too!Although everyone is painfully familiar with the usual remote working tools, there is more to discover.

One less post-it used means one step closer to a better environment. Specifically, when it comes to project planning, switching to online alternatives like Asana, Planner by MS Teams or other similar tools goes a long way. It allows collaborative working no matter the distance, and stops those sticky notes flying around, quickly landing in the trash. If you are a fan of the paper look, an online sticky-note tool is the right one for you.

Many more useful tools for remote teams can be found here.

Beginnings are always hard – but it’s worth it. Every small step that we take towards a more sustainable lifestyle is a milestone and will go a long way. Especially in an office environment where giving a positive example can directly inspire others to follow. So go for it, and we’ll see you online!
