The Dixie Fire was a monstrous inferno that raged across Northern California in 2021 and it left a path of devastation in its wake. It is the second-largest wildfire in the history of California, coming second after Camp Fire in 2018.

Over 963,000 acres were scorched as a result of this fire, and this has left a lasting impact on the environment and communities it touched, some of them even to this day.

There has been a $225 million lawsuit against Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), the company that was mostly responsible for this fire. Many property owners who suffered losses are exploring legal options with the help of Dixie Fire attorneys.

What Started the Fire?

The Dixie Fire started on the 13th of July, 2021, near the Keddie Powerhouse in Plumas County. When the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection conducted an investigation, it was revealed that a malfunctioning piece of Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) equipment caused the fire.

According to experts on the team, it is assumed that a tree came into contact with the PG&E power lines, and this sparked the initial flames that spiraled out of control.

An accident like this is proof of the dangers of using old utility infrastructure and how it can cause wildfires.

All of those who were affected by the fire may want to consult with a Dixie fire attorney to understand their legal options.

Which Areas Suffered the Most Damages?

The Dixie Fire marched north of California and razed almost everything in its wake. Several counties were brutally affected. Here is a list of them:

Plumas County was where the fire started, and as expected, the county suffered the earliest and most extensive damage. The communities of Chester, Greenville, and Westwood were severely impacted, and Greenville was completely wiped off the map.

Lassen County suffered extensively as the fire spread east. The fire ripped through the Janesville area, burning down large areas of forests. Nearby communities also felt the heat, but thankfully they were not as unlucky as Janesville.

Butte County was a victim of the devastating Camp Fire in 2018. This did not save it from being a two-time victim. The fire primarily affected the eastern portion of the province, but the effect was felt in all of the county.

Shasta County As the fire burned through the western edge of Shasta County, Millville was the unfortunate community that suffered the most. Even though the fire remained contained in the community, neighboring towns, including Redding, were forced to remain on high alert. Safe to say it was a terrible experience for both the direct victims and their neighbors.

Tehama County suffered less than other countries, but the fire showed how easily wildfires can cross county lines.

Damage to Nature

The very hot fire burned up important areas where plants and animals live, messing up the whole balance of nature. It will take many years, maybe even decades, for these areas to recover.

The Dixie Fire burned for over three months. Firefighters from all over California and even other states came to fight the huge fire. To fight the fire, they had to set smaller fires to help control the big one, and also use airplanes to water down the fires from above. This was a dangerous ordeal, but they were relentless.

Finally, in late October, after 100 long days, they were able to end the fire. Even though the fire was out, the work wasn’t done. All the land that burned needed a lot of care to prevent mudslides when it rained again. Also, people in the places that the fire touched had to start rebuilding their homes and lives.

What Happens Now?

The fight for justice isn’t over. A whopping $225 million lawsuit has been filed against PG&E for the Dixie Fire, meaning the victims can finally get some compensation.

The battle will be tough; there’s no telling when it will end. But that shouldn’t deter you from joining in.

As long as you were a victim of that unfortunate accident, you should contact a lawyer to begin working on how to get you on the list of plaintiffs.
