For many, kitchens are the epitome of functionality and style. Ranging from sleek, minimalist designs to bold and colourful choices, there are abundant alternatives to choose from. Whether you are looking to add more storage, upgrade to smarter appliances or transform your kitchen entirely, there is something that suits everyone’s taste and needs.

In this article, we will explore some of the latest kitchen remodeling trends and ideas for your high-end home. With these ideas at your fingertips, you can rest assured that you will achieve a fresh and contemporary look that reflects your personality.

1.   Kitchen Trends – Open Shelves

bulk foods storage in pantryIt’s time to say goodbye to wall cabinets and start embracing open shelving options for your kitchen. From Milton Keynes to Edinburgh, homeowners have quickly adopted this trend in their fitted kitchens thanks to the wide storage opportunities it provides.

Moreover, open shelves offer ample opportunities to explore and experiment. In fact, many homeowners are mixing things up by integrating contemporary kitchen designs with classic ones.

For example, you can build a country-style kitchen and add open shelves and a pantry rather than banal wall cabinets. It’s a retro yet chic and beautiful addition to your kitchen space. Coupled with rustic kitchen islands, they are the best solution for homeowners who love practicality and style, all in one place!

2.   Say Yes To Rugs

Rugs in the kitchen? Might sound like an odd idea! However, the latest kitchen trends show how rugs are a brilliant addition to soften your kitchen space and add volume to it.

Modern living spaces have witnessed an increase in open plans with kitchens taking centre stage. While the idea of functional kitchens sounds brilliant, most people are gradually inclining towards building spaces that offer adaptability and comfort. An excellent solution to this is layering of textures as it offers a tactile feel as well as depth to your kitchen.

For instance, well-positioned rugs beneath your dining table can add the perfect touch of cosiness for a casual Sunday breakfast or tea with friends.

Rugs offer a feeling of warmth and their rich textiles add elegance and personality to your kitchen.

3.   Windows And Siding Opportunities

This is because large windows offer ample natural light, bringing a bright and airy ambience to your kitchen, as well as a beautiful view of the outdoor space, adding to the overall appeal of your kitchen. Fiber cement siding is resistant to rust, pests and fire, making it a safe and low-maintenance alternative.

If you wish to take this a notch further, consider playing with bold colours such as bright red or deep blue. This can make a dramatic impact while ensuring your house stands out from the rest. Another addition for homeowners who love a natural look is using wood cladding. This helps add warmth and texture to your exterior.

4.   Aluminium Hardware

Although brass and stainless steel are popular choices among homeowners, aluminium is now making its way onto our favourites list. With budget-friendly hardware and low environmental impact, this material is gradually finding its way into most kitchens.

Being a recyclable material, many people are more inclined towards aluminium as it helps decrease overall carbon footprint. Anodized aluminium is a more sustainable choice than electroplated brass.

Owing to its sturdy and lightweight properties, it is far easier to ship this hardware, thereby reducing the carbon impact of these products. The cherry on the cake is its smooth black and raw grey tone that adds a layer of sleekness and elegance to your kitchen.

This is why many people are actively looking for ways to bring a comforting and relaxing feel to their homes. An easy way to do this is by using natural materials.

Irrespective of different kitchen trends, wood still holds its position as a constant in design themes. The kitchen space is no exception for this material as it balances high gloss surfaces with ease.

How often do you find yourself decluttering for your overall well-being? Decluttering is the best way to create more storage opportunities in your kitchen. Kitchens are usually seen as rooms for storage of a number of different items – from a bunch of ingredients to cooking equipment and appliances.

So, well-placed and concealed storage ideas are a must.

A successful layout is one that caters to ample space and helps to keep the clutter out of sight.

Working your way through practical gadgets that offer better functionality and utility can help immensely. Additionally, large easy-access storage in the form of pan drawers in kitchen islands can also offer ample storage space.

7.   Add Texture With Reeded Glass

Reeded glass has made a comeback, owing to its ability to offer textural contrast and depth to your kitchen. It has gradually replaced frosted and mottled glass by being the best addition to your window film. Add reeded glass to glass cabinets or baker tables for a delightful aesthetic.

This stylish upgrade can be the best contemporary twist as you can use it to disguise the contents of cupboards or cabinets that you don’t want to be on display on special occasions. This trend is the easiest to work with even if you have a small kitchen space.

8.   Marble Effect

Marble can add an understated and chic effect to your kitchen. Its refined elegance and timeless appeal still make it a popular choice among homeowners.

Marble has been a staple in kitchen design owing to its durability and easy-to-maintain nature. From experimenting with the perennial Carrara veins to the newest colourful marble shades, the stone has a unique presence and beauty that remains unmatched.

Dramatic kitchen aesthetics are back and how! Dark and moody kitchens with an all-black kitchen scheme not only scream boldness but also make a dramatic impact.

This powerful colour can add elegance to your kitchen design. Just make sure you don’t overdo it! Combining this dramatic colour with lighter or softer colours or blending it with natural materials can uplift the overall ambience of your kitchen.

10.    Kitchen Remodeling Trends – Revamp Your Sink

More often than not, large bowls are often in demand for kitchen sinks. Apart from the sizing, a change in colour and finish is now gaining popularity. Granite and steel sinks are high in demand with copper and gold effects being the latest entrants.

Homeowners are on the lookout for scratch-resistant and easy-to-clean sinks. A popular option is ceramic sinks with brass taps along with under-mounted sinks to keep your sink area tidy at all times.

11.    Glazed Tiles

Kitchen remodeling trends are now shifting from matt finishes to gloss finishes. People are now choosing glazed tiles that are easy to clean and help reflect the light around your room.

These tiles are rich in colour and look heavenly when paired with wood or marble work surfaces. They create a beautiful contrast of earthy colours and elegance while adding the perfect layer of texture to your kitchen space.

If you love keeping things minimalistic, glazed clay titles with ample natural light in your kitchen can offer the perfect muted look.

To Sum It Up

Riding on the current kitchen designs is the perfect way to kickstart your kitchen remodeling journey. Keeping your budget and needs in mind, there are several alternatives to experiment for all.

Ranging from elegant marble finishes to wooden flooring, homeowners are primarily looking for solutions that are not just functional but also beautiful. Kitchens are the heart of your home and a hub for socialising, making it imperative to crack the right revamping choices.

  • Perhaps it is because I am a very messy person in the kitchen, but I really don’t like open shelves. The shelves get dirtier quicker and the contents (containers, books, decorations, etc.) need to be cleaned more often.

    • Well, I’m not particularly messy in the kitchen (although I’m definitely not obsessively clean!) but I agree with you about open shelves there. It’s a trend, I see it all over the place, but I wouldn’t have open shelves personally. You’re absolutely right, they get dirty (and even slightly greasy) much too quickly.
And anyway, it’s much easier to hide a mess behind closed cupboard doors 🙂
