Smoothies for Bloating

If your tummy feels bloated, it’s uncomfortable. It could be due to overeating, eating the wrong foods, or another cause. Check out these all-natural ways to cure bloating, including smoothies chock full of anti-bloat ingredients.

Bloating happens when fluid or air is trapped in the digestive tract.

Natural Cure for Bloating – Water

save water wash fresh fruit in bowlOf course, there’s medication for bloating, but it’s worth giving these natural remedies a try first.

Often, bloating is the result of too little fiber in your diet. Green smoothies really up your fibre content, so give these recipes (below) a try.

And don’t forget water!

When you’re bloated, you’re retaining fluid instead of getting rid of it. So it seems daft to drink more fluid! But drinking water – especially with some freshly squeezed lemon juice in it – really helps to get your system moving properly.

Hydration helps prevent bloating, as well as cure existing bloating.

Just be aware that you won’t hydrate properly by drinking just anything. Sodas and soft drinks, coffee etc won’t help. It needs to be water.

Papaya Smoothie for Bloating

The ginger, papaya and cucumber don’t just add flavor – they’re great for your digestion too!

If your blender is powerful, you don’t need to do much chopping. If you’re using a stick blender, it’s wise to chop all solid ingredients first.

  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach
  • 1/2 cucumber (peeled if desired) and chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1/4 cup papaya
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
  1. raw food - green juicePlace spinach, cucumber, and celery into blender. Add water and blend until smooth.
  2. Add the pineapple, papaya, ginger, and lime juice. Blend again until completely smooth.
  3. Serve immediately or refrigerate in airtight containers for up to 2 days.

Basic De-Bloat Smoothie

You’ll need

  • fresh spinach
  • frozen pineapple
  • frozen mango
  • fresh banana
  • water

It’s better to use frozen fruit so that your smoothie is nicely chilled. You could add ice – but it dilutes the smoothie and might blunt the blades of your blender too.

In terms of quantity, I use about a cup of spinach, and the same quantity of all the other ingredients together. In other words, one cup of spinach, 1 cup of mixed pineapple + mango + banana and about  1/2 to 1 cup of water, depending on your blender and how thick you like your smoothies. Blend (use a blender or a stick blender) until it looks nice and creamy. Add more water if necessary. Drink immediately.
